Passionate Percussionist and Composer
Connor Self is a versatile percussionist and composer whose work spans orchestral, chamber, solo, jazz, and marching performance. As a member of the TCU Percussion Studio, he studies under Dr. Brian West and Jeffrey Hodge, building on formative training with Christopher Lennox, Mai Hessel, and other distinguished educators. He has performed with ensembles including the Greater Dallas Youth Symphony Orchestra, North Texas Symphony Orchestra, and Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps, and continues to perform actively with the TCU Percussion Ensemble and Horned Frog Marching Band.
Connor's accomplishments include recording with the TCU Percussion Orchestra, performing alongside renowned clarinetist Paquito D’Rivera, and being featured on WRR’s Monday Night Concert Hall. His performance career reflects both technical precision and expressive depth across a broad range of genres.
Drawing on the cultural influences of his Native American and Mexican heritage, Connor's compositions integrate rhythm, narrative, and identity. Works such as Heleswv and Locura del Sol explore heritage and duality through modern percussion writing, while The Pale King, The Abyss, and Collete exemplify his craftsmanship in structure and texture in the Western medium.
Through his work as performer, composer, and collaborator, Connor Self continues to contribute a distinctive voice to contemporary percussion, uniting tradition, innovation, and cultural expression within his evolving artistry.
